2009 Foals

Betty Bug is a registered Paint mare. She has been an incredible  broodmare, producing National calibre Western Pleasure Horses. Being HOMOZYGOUS for the pinto colouring means that every foal she produces is guaranteed to be coloured.

Betty came into our lives in 1996. My friend Kelley and I decided one Sunday afternoon to go to a local horse sale. Kelley is a big Pinto fan and dragged me over to see this yearling Paint filly with the Arab head. I really wasn't in the market for another horse, especially from a different breed, since at that time I was a devoted Purebred fan. Well, a bit of convincing on Kelley's part. I ended up  buying Betty and now had to make the dreaded call to my fiancee, Richard, that I had acquired another horse.  Lucky for me, Richard  didn't say too much (now years later, Richard  has realized it is better to look the other way).

I kept Betty into her 2 year old year.
Newly married and having moved onto another property with limited space, I leased Betty Bug for 3 years to Judy Haynes of Piney Wood Arabians, situated in Keremeos. Judy bred Betty to her beloved Crabbet bred stallion, PW Freedm and in 1999, Betty produced her first colt, WAY TOO COOL,  who became a  Canadian National Top 10 Western Pleasure Horse with  numerous wins at the Regional and Class 'A' shows, he is owned by Julie Ade'.  Her second foal a filly, passed away at 10 days of age. Judy leased Betty for  a third year and the following year Betty produced, COWBOY COOL, who was sold as a weanling to Joy Manning  of Washington. Cowboy Cool was sent to Ron Copple for training and under his capable hands went on to being Region V Champion Western Pleasure Horse. Later he was sold and  with his new young owner, Philip Controneo,   became  2005 Canadian National Champion H/A Western Pleasure Horse Junior To Ride.

After weaning Cowboy Cool, Betty came home and in 2002 she produced for me, FREEDM'S PAINTED LADY, sold as a yearling to Paula Haley of Indianapolis. This filly was shown in 2005 at the US Nationals and took Top Ten honours in the Western Pleasure Futurity.

2003 was the last year of this golden cross. Judy Haynes beloved stallion of 20 years, passed away suddenly of a twisted bowel. In May  2004, Betty produced her final filly by PW Freedm, one of the typiest of the cross and of a very rich chocolate colour, COWGIRL COOL. She is now owned by Joy Manning who had also owned Cowboy Cool.
Cowgirl Cool is a Region 4 Top Five H/A Western Pleasure Junior Horse and US National Top 10 H/A Western Pleasure Futurity  winner.

We currently have two wonderful colts by HJ GOLD N FAME out of Betty. Both colts are typey and correct, surprisingly the 2006 colt, Sante Fe Cool, has a touch of blue in his right eye like his mother. Both colt shows promise of being  excellent Western prospects.

We are very excited about her upcoming NYN HISANI foal due in April 2009.

Betty Bug is a rare mare. Her foals have outstanding minds, they  are CALM, TRAINABLE and also are beautiful balanced athletes. I was very lucky to be at the right place at the right time and having my friend give that little push to try something different.  In the future, I 'm hoping to find a suitable Registered Paint stallion to produce a Homozygous filly as a replacement as Betty advances in years.
Betty is a special mare and will always have a special place with us.
